Smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems, also known as “SHEVS” are natural or powered systems to remove smoke from a building allowing low level escape routes to be kept clear of smoke and reducing damage to the building.
Smoke Ventilation Systems by AK Fire provide life Safety smoke ventilation systems that assist occupant’s means of escape and provide clear access for firefighting services. Based just outside of London, in Watford, Ak Fire are leading industry specialists in the supply, installation and maintenance of cutting edge, smoke venting systems, with a uniquely effective approach. From Natural Smoke Ventilation Systems to Mechanical smoke ventilation systems AK Fire has system and approach to suit every requirement
Can aid the safe escape of occupants’ and allow adequate access for firefighters. Our Mechanical Smoke Ventilation Systems are an alternative method to Natural Smoke Venting. In the event of a fire, mechanical smoke vent systems offer the ultimate in smoke control as they remove smoke from the building, thus aiding the occupants’ means of escape and providing suitable access for firefighting services. This type of smoke extraction system comprises of a mechanical extract shaft that serves the common corridor and/ or lobby. When smoke it detected within a protected lobby, only the fire damper to the smoke shaft on the fire floor will open (all other dampers will remain locked shut). In turn, the vent at the head of the staircase will open allowing the smoke to be removed and make up air for the smoke extraction system. The fan at the top of the mechanical smoke shaft extracts the smoke and prevents migration of smoke into the adjacent compartments.
At AK Fire Safety we design the Corridor Environmental System to maximise heat removal, providing occupants and maintenance operatives with comfortable internal temperatures. We can help you achieve substantial cost savings wherever we can utilise the smoke shaft during the initial construction stage, thus allowing us to complete installation in just one exercise. Our system has a proven track record of eliminating heat gain from the common heating/hot water pipework and allows the common stairway to be cooled. It also factors in the scheme’s acoustic requirements, with primary and secondary attenuation included in each system to minimise noise breakout. Not only can our specialist design team integrate our Corridor Environmental System with our mechanical smoke ventilation system for maximum cost and area efficiency, but we can also retrofit the system easily to existing smoke ventilation systems, avoiding costly additional installations.
